Red Alert! Sec. Defense nominee Gates linked to Iran-Contra AND America's 'HAVA' voting process nightmare...

We here at C-dems have never linked to a BlackBoxVoting.org article (founder Bev Harris does leave herself vulnerable to charges of seeking publicity spotlight), even though we completely agree with BBV that America's current voting process is a PATHETIC, INEXCUSABLE NIGHTMARE that demands millions of dollars worth of investigations. (Investigations that Harris and BBV have been doing on a shoestring budget.)

But in this case, Harris and BBV point out the LINKS between President Bush's Defense Secretary nominee, Robert Gates, and the HAVA voting act that, in reality, has been a license for Republican-owned companies to force their disgraceful, UNVERIFIABLE vote-counting machines down America's throat.

WE here at C-dems FULLY SUPPORT Oregon Senator Ron Wyden's call for NATIONWIDE MAIL-IN VOTING as performed over the past several years in Oregon.

Click here or past URL into "download manager" in InternetExplorer for an audio (MP3) download of Senator Wyden explaining MAIL IN VOTING during his call-in to the Big Ed Schultz radio show. Sen. Wyden explaining that mail-in voting PREVENTS vote fraud, gives ALL voters PLENTY of time to register to vote; and DISPENSES with the need for tens-of-millions of dollars worth of atrocious computerized voting machines, including the especially appalling TOUCH-SCREEN machines WITH NO PAPER TRAIL or audit capability. And, above all, MAIL IN VOTING leaves a PAPER TRAIL that ALL CANDIDATES, PARTIES, and media can go over, check and audit to CERTIFY THAT THE VOTE TOTALS are fair, accurate, and honest.

ALREADY in these 3 days since election Tuesday (Nov. 7/2006), we have TWO races in Florida, alone, where TOUCH SCREEN VOTING MACHINES have delivered improbable results. In Florida House District 13, Katherine Harris' old seat, UNDERVOTES completely out of character with undervotes in neighboring districts, have given a slime 300-vote electoral 'win' to the Republican candidate, despite HUNDREDS of such anomalous "undervotes." "Undervotes" have also been a problem in Miami-Dade county vote totals.

More generally, the TREND whereby VOTING TOTALS on COMPUTERIZED VOTING MACHINES in CRITICAL SWING DISTRICTS have DIVERGED from the POLLS (and exit polls) CONTINUES throughout the 2006 election, including in both critical "swing" state elections of VIRGINIA and MONTANA.

Democrats have a RESPONSIBILITY and OBLIGATION to INVESTIGATE Computerized Voting problems, including the FUNDING of HAVA, the links between Robert Gates and America's dismal computerized voting process, and the ongoing problems in this election.

And just because President Bush FIRED Sec. Rumsfeld, talks about "bipartisanship" and the Major Media is back to trivializing important stories and issues, DOES NOT MEAN that Democrats should GO BACK to the policies of appeasement and retreat!

(Hint: Run some of those videos of President Bush pledging "BIPARTISANSHIP" and UNITER, NOT Divider" back during the 2000 election.)

<< Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld will resign, reportedly to be replaced by former CIA director Robert Gates. Did you know that Robert Gates was involved in the voting machine industry?

Gates was on the board of directors of VoteHere, a strange little company that was the biggest elections industry lobbyist for the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). VoteHere spent more money than ES&S, Diebold, and Sequoia combined to help ram HAVA through. And HAVA, of course, was a bill sponsored by by convicted Abramoff pal Bob Ney and K-street lobbyist buddy Steny Hoyer. HAVA put electronic voting on steroids. >>
