Cowering Democrats- Time to name names....

Cowering Democrats- Time to name names....

Where to start? The below LIST of COWERING Dems, brought to us by the great folks over at Democrats.com Head over to their site, give a gander, and make a contribution if you think they are doing a good job. For the past dozen months Democrats.com has dropped the "let's investigate further" mantra of the inside-the-beltway Democrats, and come out calling for censure, subpoenas, and holding the administration of George W. Bush accountable to the Laws of the United States.

And finally, after dozens of months, and two short-sheeted presidential campaigns, we have a Champion: Senator Russ Feingold has come out and CALLED FOR CENSURE of President Bush for blatantly and openly violating the law about spying on Americans. Mr. Bush has, quite simply, unilaterally declared that he (and "his" government) have the right to SPY ON ANY AMERICAN, AT ANY TIME, without judicial restraint, prior oversight, or even post-facto oversight. (The Republican whitewash of "Senate review" for thousands upon thousands of wiretaps notwithstanding.)

Here is how Democrats.com puts it:

<< On 3/13/06, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) introduced a resolution to censure George Bush for illegally wiretapping American citizens....
Naturally, Republicans went ballistic. Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) called Feingold "crazy" and tried to strangle his resolution in the crib. But Democrats wouldn't let him, so now the bill will go to the Judiciary Committee for further consideration.
Feingold's gutsy action has forced a debate on a topic that has been taboo in Washington: how to hold George Bush accountable for his innumerable crimes. Obviously this is a debate Republicans are desperate to avoid at all costs. But why are Democrats (other than Feingold) avoiding it too? >>

<< Why are Democrats avoiding... the resolution to censure George Bush for illegal wiretapping, >> indeed?

This Democratic "avoidance" is all the more egregious, not just given Bush's dismal 34%+/- approval, but because SO MANY Democratic Senators ARE ON THE RECORD as saying that they believe Bush's "wiretapping" and (to be more precise) electronic-communication 'data mining' is ILLEGAL.

Here's the Dem. Senator's comments, IN THEIR OWN WORDS:
http://audio.wegoted.com/podcasting/31406Opening.mp3

Sen. Byrd: "This president has broken the law, let's just change the law."
"We need a 9-11 style commission to dig into" [potential lawbreaking]...
at 21 minutes into the MP3 clip...
Sen. Harken: "the president of the United States Violated the Constitution."
Sen. Boxer: "There is no excuse here for breaking the law.'
This is what our people are supposedly fighting for in Iraq?
Freedom, and then we have a president that disregards the law?"
Sen. Kennedy: "'We [Bush White House] don't have to follow that...
we can wiretap Americans,' [then] that is basically above the law."
Sen. Kerry: "He [Pres. Bush] is not on legal ground."

As Big Ed (radio host at WeGotEd.com) says, "WHAT's the BIG DEAL?"
This is ONLY a CENSURE motion, and the Republican Majority WILL VOTE IT DOWN ANYWAYS.

Well, it has taken 5 years of Dems. AVOIDING the Bush-Rove war drums, for them to paint themselves as so doing.

And sure enough, at the start of this same audio clip (1:43 to 2:40) there is Vice President Cheney banging those war drums: "Some Democrats in Congress have decided that President Bush is the enemy.... The outrageous proposition that we should protect our enemies' ability to communicate, as it plots against America, poses a key test of our Democratic leaders."

The question is, "Can America function as a ('small d') democracy, if on each and every issue the Bush White House and Republican Congress shout "War on Terror!" and (in the case of criminalizing abortion even in instances of rape and incest) "Moral Values!", all issues Democrats prefer retreat and silence, to standing up and drawing the line.

Our "Well Done!" and "We Support you!" to the courageous Senator Feingold.
The phones to the senate offices are buzzing this morning... give your senator a call, and urge them to stand up for their voters and constituents.
