Lieberman the King of having it both ways....
If you can look past the "Joe-momentumless" moniker, this is a great editorial about how Joe Lieberman likes to have it both ways, how Lieberman talks out of the side of his mouth to whichever political issue or position he thinks will best serve his grasp on the reigns of power.
Joe Lieberman was a "Civil Rights Democrat," it is true, long ago, early in his career Lieberman joined some civil rights protests and signed on to civil rights legislation. But today Joe Lieberman is the Democratic senator FROM DIEBOLD - the 'hear on evil, see no evil, and heavens-to-Betsy SPEAK NO EVIL of Diebold and Rethuglican systematic disenfranchisement and vote-fraud efforts... Efforts which have all the subtlety and precision of a sledgehammer smashing down on an egg, Republican efforts which simply identify minority precincts that tend to vote Democratic, and where Repubs proceed to do everything within their means to DISCOURAGE and PROHIBIT (illegally) voters from voting.
Lieberman PRETENDS TO STAND ON PRINCIPLE, but he couldn't even resign his senate race in 2000, as he was given the SINGULAR HONOR of running for Vice President on the Democratic ticket! Al Gore should have FIRED (demanded Lieberman resign) on the spot. Had Gore NOT given Joe Lieberman the singular honor of being the VP nominee, and had Gore simply repeated the Clinton 1992 gambit of selecting another Southern, White, male Democrat to be his VP nominee (instead of seeking a minority or female candidate), Gore would probably have carried his home state of Tennessee, and Arkansas, and would have won the 2000 popular vote by more than the 500,000 vote margin that he did win.
Well, at least Mr. Alexander's commentary reminds us, that at ZERO for THREE, Joe Lieberman truly is the "SORE-LOSERMAN" candidate that Republicans portrayed him as in the 2000 Florida vote recount battle - and a MOMEMTUMLESS traitor as he flounders trying to hand the Republican Party the majority AGAIN in 2006.

Joementumless Lieberman is the king of having it both ways. When he ran as Al Gore's Vice-President, he refused to surrender his Senate seat. While serving as the Senator from Connecticut, when Lieberman floundered in New Hampshire during his failed bid to become the 2004 Democratic Presidential nominee, Joementumless Lieberman filed, if only symbolically, as a resident of the Granite State. While pretending to be a Democrat in the Senate Lieberman undermined his own party and instead, supported Bush and Republicans. It is fitting then, that even while Joementumless conceded defeat to Ned Lamont following the Connecticut Democratic Primary, he promised to carry on.
For a man of supposed impeccable character and one who "stands on principle", Joementumless Lieberman's "principles" appear to align most often with what he thinks is politically most beneficial to him alone. Many like to point to Joementumless' stance on the Iraq War and claim that to be the defining issue proving him a man of incredible principle. Yet, here, too, Joementumless' war position, when scrutinized, was born out of nothing more than political expedience.
Joementumless' Iraq position and support for Bush evolved while both the war and Bush were popular among the people. Only weeks before the Connecticut primary Joementumless stood on the Senate floor and opposed his own Party's position on the Iraq War, while speaking on behalf of the Republican Senate. Then, when Joementumless' Iraq position proved to be a drag upon his primary political aspirations he suddenly claimed the war wasn't going so well, Rumsfeld should resign, and claimed he had always been critical of Bush's handling of the war. Does that really appear to be the behavior of a man acting out of unyielding "principle" or is it just one more example of Joementumless' need to have it both ways?
Joementumless Lieberman doesn't like to talk about it and, for that matter, neither does the national media nor the Democratic Leadership Council, but the fact regarding Connecticut's Senator is this: in his last three campaigns Joementumless is a perfect 0-for-3. One would think the guy would take the hint.
Matter of fact, a truly "principled" person who genuinely had the American and Connecticut peoples' best interest at heart would realize that the people have clearly, on three separate occasions, told Joementumless Lieberman that they do not consider him to be in their best interest. Yet, Joementumless' white hot and blinding desire for personal power and glory will not allow him to see the reality of his political world. That he is 0-for-3 in his last three campaigns means nothing to Joementumless. Instead, since nobody will have him, he decided to start his own Party: a Party of, for, and by Joementumless Lieberman.
Truly, if Joementumless were a man of "principle" he would have realized he has a perfect record of defeat, that the people really and truly don't want him and that a man of character would accept defeat with dignity. But Joementumless Lieberman cannot allow the Will of the people -- three times running -- to stand in the way of his personal glorification and ambition. And so it is, the King of having it both ways looked his 0-for-3 record dead on, saw that the people of America and Connecticut had no use for his political ideals and declared himself the ONLY person in the United States capable of standing up for the Will of the people...while blatantly and plainly ignoring, on three separate occasions, the Will of the people.
