San Diego (CA) voters AFFIRM Repub. "business as usual" CORRUPTION. Massive GOP effort $$ to retain Cunningham's seat defeats TEPID DNC support... and TEPID Democrat message early in campaign season 2006.

NOTE HOW THIS ARTICLE states that this was a "BELLWETHER RACE", WITHOUT pointing out how much money the RNC had to spend to retain Cunningham's seat... in a FIERCELY REPUBLICAN district, a district that is home to TENs of BILLIONS of dollars of federal government DEFENSE SPENDING for Navy and Marine military bases in the area.

This is a PRIME example of the TRUE Republican culture **DEPENDENT on BIG_GOVERNMENT_SPENDING**, a political formula the Democrats STILL HAVEN'T FOUND AN ANSWER TO all these years and decades after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's WWII military has become the foundation of America's post-WWII society and empire. That is, today's Republican live off and crave BIG_GOVERNMENT_SPENDING for their pet (military, oil, security, transportation... etc) contractors, while SIMULTANEOUSLY BASHING Democrats for... "Big Government Spending."

The Dems, BY NOT TRYING, have not found an answer to this decades-old Republican campaign PR maneuvering.

And, of course, the DNC's tepid "Time for a Change" mantra doesn't help a candidate like Francine Busby much.

"Liberal" Radio host Big Ed Schultz CHASTISED San Diego Dem. voters for NOT_FLOCKING_TO_POLLS to toss out the GOP congressional corruption machine in that district.

BUT, Republicans in that district... and all across America... GET A STEADY DIET of "HATE Democrats, gays, immigrants, terrarists, war-protesters, tax-and-spenders" (etc) from the Karl Rove Republican Propaganda Machine, a diet of air-waves driven hate that DRIVES THEM TO THE POLLS IN OUTRAGE every election.

Hell, Mr. Schultz talked on-air with a San Diego Busby supporter, who came home to witness a working delivery truck driver DEFACING HER BUSBY signs... in her own yard! The caller confronted the delivery-driver vandal, and explained that his vandalism was an election crime. The driver pleaded for mercy (not to have the lady call the police or his boss), and explained that he had been driven to his vandalism by becoming outraged after listening to Right-Wing talk radio whip him into a "HATE-Democrat Francine Busby" frenzy.

We Democrats, on the other hand, get SUCH_A_MUDDLED_MESSAGE from out "leadership" and PR mavens, that we often toss our hands up in despair: "Send your HARD_EARNED_money to the Gore-Lieberman campaign, and Joe Lieberman will get COZY with Dick Cheney and ABANDON the Florida vote recount (which is to say ALL 50 million Democratic voters); send your money to Kerry-Edwards and they will be fodder for a Pat Oliphant "Rip Van Kerry" cartoon (SLEEPING, like Rip Van Winkle, through the election summer of 2004), topped by John Kerry standing there like a mute PUNCHING-BAG as, #1. President Bush looked into national TV cameras during the 3rd debate and sneered "MY OPPONENT IS A FLIP-FLOPPER!"; and #2. Kerry did NOTHING to demonstrate to the American voting public that the "Swift Boat" PR campaign against him was based on abject lies, NOT ONE of the "Swift Boat Veterans Against Kerry" had ACTUALLY BEEN IN COMBAT *WITH* Kerry when he was a Navy Lieutenant in the US "brown-water Navy" on small "Swift boat" gun boats during the Vietnam War.

This habit of the national Democratic Party DOWNPLAYING Republican LIES, CORRUPTION, CONVICTIONS, Diebold-disenfranchisement, war-lies, economic injustice, corporate arrogance and HATE, (etc), is why courageous FRANCINE BUSBY, a SCHOOL TEACHER, lost a SQUEAKER of an election to her MUCH BETTER FUNDED GOP, corporate lobbyist rival.

This web-site has already predicted that Democrats, by DOWNPLAYING THE OUTRAGE that we Democratic voters feel, are out to LOOSE the 2006 elections, and with each passing day, it does indeed look like the DNC and Democrat 'inside the beltway' leadership is TRYING to DEPRESS Democratic voter activism, and the OUTRAGE against Republican crimes, corruption, and administration incompetence.

note #2 - ABC "news" is every bit as pro-Republican Party as Fox "news" is, without the hysterics...

Jun 7, 2006 (AP)— A former Republican congressman narrowly beat his Democratic rival early Wednesday for the right to fill the House seat once held by jailed Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a race closely watched as a possible early barometer of next fall's vote.

Republican Brian Bilbray emerged victorious after a costly and contentious special election race against Democrat Francine Busby, a local school board member who ran against Cunningham in 2004.

With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Bilbray had 56,130 votes or 49.5 percent. Busby trailed with 51,292 votes or 45 percent. "I think that we're going back to Washington," Bilbray told cheering supporters.

The race one of dozens of contests Tuesday in eight states was viewed by Democrats as an opportunity to capture a solidly Republican district and build momentum on their hopes to capture control of the House.

Also in California, State Treasurer Phil Angelides narrowly beat Controller Steve Westly in the state's gubernatorial primary. With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Angelides had 918,786 votes, or 48 percent, to Westly's 840,612 votes, or 44 percent.

"You've given me a chance to fight for you, for the California of our dreams, and I will not let you down," Angelides said while his supporters chanted, "Go, Phil, go!"

Elsewhere, Alabama Gov. Bob Riley easily beat back a GOP primary challenge from Ten Commandments judge Roy Moore, while Democratic former Gov. Don Siegelman who campaigned while on trial on corruption charges lost his comeback fight against Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley. Also in Alabama, voters passed a ban on gay marriage by a 4-to-1 margin.

Riley said voters saw state government has changed while he has been in office. "People appreciated the difference in the level of corruption we had in the past and the corruption we don't have today," he said. His challenger, Moore, the former state chief justice who became a hero to the religious right in 2003 when he was ousted after refusing to remove the Commandments monument from the state judicial building, said: "God's will has been done."
