Steve Young's excellent idea: Democrats SHOULD DEMAND the Bush admin. APOLOGIZE for THEIR poor jokes, humiliating of generals, horrible policies...
Steve Young's dozen (almost) ideas for "Democrats DEMAND Bush Apologize!" editorial actually serves to document the fundamental equation in today's American politics: except for the horrendous violence, brutality, and horrific cost(s) of the Iraq war, the Republicans DOMINATE the media and political discourse, and it is THEY who determine what is and is not an issue or outrage these past few years.
As the HBO documentary "Hacking Democracy" just reminded us, even presidential candidate JOHN KERRY, mobilized with an army of lawyers, THREW IN THE TOWEL on the very MORNING AFTER election 2004, despite (according to the documentary and other sources) Kerry's KNOWING that many electronic vote totals for Bush in that election were, to say the least, suspicious. (The documentary mentions Kerry himself citing, in a telephone conference call, opti-scan voting machines in Arizona reporting totals consistently, always for "Bush majorities", even in fiercely Democratic districts.)
What America now needs most are LEADERS who fulfill an OPPOSITION function to unchecked, nearly MONARCHIAL powers of ONE-PARTY RULE - the same monarchial abuses enumerated in the Declaration of Independence (Namely, warrantless arrests, and courts answerable only to a distant, totalitarian royal authority, and not to the local coumunities). America needs an opposition party that makes "DELIBERATIVE DEMOCRACY" a working concept and not just a distant ideal or a cheap political slogan.
