Arianna Huffington confirms: Joe Lieberman out to DESTROY the Democratic party, in his bid to win reelection as an 'independent.'

Arianna Huffington CONFIRMS: Joe 'traitor' Lieberman is out to DESTROY the Democratic Party, in his bid to win reelection to the Senate as 'an independent' candidate... a bid that must rely on peeling off thousands of Democratic voters from the Democratic Party nominee in Connecticut, Ned Lamont.

Poor Arianna!

She started her "blog," or internet web site, as just another commentary or op-ed & news site, one of many among thousands. For example, Democrats.com and OpEdNews.com preceded Arianna's site, and at one time or another Salon.com (and, to an even lesser extent, Microsoft's Slate.com) and other sites have made pretensions at becoming THE all-around "Liberal" or "Democratic" or Progressive touch-stone news, editorial, commentary, and opinion sites. (With, in case of HuffingtonPost.com, a touch of amusement, comedy, and videos thrown in.)

But Arianna's formulation for inviting guest op-ed writers, allowing reader comments to be posted alongside those editorials, and including up-to-the-moment headlines and news analysis at the top of the site, is now catapulting Arianna's HuffingtonPost.com to the heights of America's Democratic leadership elite.

The problem with that, of course, is that American society and our Paparazzi love, almost as much as building the latest media star up, tearing that same star apart on the way down.

In the case of Arianna, she has already been through at least one "GOTCHA!" moment, when she invited superstar actor George Clooney to write an op-ed on her site in opposition to the Iraq war - a stand Clooney has publicly made many comments on previously, including the production of and stafing in his movie "Syriana," a depiction of the orgy of greed, big money, repression and terror violence (backlash) in the global energy industry.

Arianna personnaly talked with George Clooney, and then contacted Clooney's PR persons, who passively agreed that it might be a good idea for George to write a commentary at some future date. But clearly the actor (Clooney) wasn't rushing to get his views written or posted on the web, not even for a polished and popular site like Huffpost.

Not taking "No" for an answer, Arianna and her staff put compiled some previously made Clooney comments into a single editorial commentary, and then forwarded a copy of this compiled 'editorial' to Clooney's PR staff. With a sort of wishy-washy "no disapproval approval," (i.e., "That might be a good idea" from a low-level Cloney PR rep) Arianna ran the compiled "op-ed" as a genuine commentary by Clooney one day in her HuffingtonPost.com website.

FIREWORKS and recriminations! Although Clooney would not disavow any of the ideas posted in "his" editorial, he did announce publicly that, NO, he had NOT written the op-ed piece. Arianna was caught in that ugly gray zone, where she didn't exactly LIE to the public (her readers) about any of Clooney's comments, but her readers were definitely under the impression that Clooney had written the piece, not that Arianna (and her staff) had patched it together, quilt-work style.

Well, that was Arianna's first blunder into the jaws of the media buzzsaw, at least as regards her new website. She has, in her political career, run into the buzzsaw before. At one time Arianna ran for CA governor by piling on to the California "RECALL" election against California's sitting Democratic Governor what's-his-name, who was too weak to haul Enron into California courts to halt that company's extortion of California energy consumers. Democrats hammered Arianna that her "piling on" to the recall election (as a candidate) split the left-liberal vote, divided Democrats, and helped Repuglican Arnold Schwarzenegger win that election. That was then.

But one thing's for sure: IF Arianna's HuffingtonPost.com continues to LEAD the WINNING, HONEST, democratic dialouge and PROGRESSIVE CALL TO ARMS ,against the entrenched DLC corporatocracy that is AIDING the Repuglican Party in LOOTING millions of American voters, she will face future a blast-furnace of backlashes in the future, too.

To which we say, "Hold on to your hat, Arianna, try to keep that ego under check... and KEEP ON TRUCKIN'!"

PS: GREAT swipe at the Clintons, Arianna... In this case, Bill Clinton, who seems only slightly more tepid in his support of Conn. Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont than the dozen-plus "UNDECIDED" Democratic Senators (and 4 outright LIEBERMAN SUPPORTERS) are, as detailed in our previous post.

This swipe outlines Bill Clinton's greatest shortcoming... not that he had affairs (in Europe, an affair between an older leader and younger women is considered a badge of virility if not honor), but that, in his guilt-ridden placation of the Right-Wing smear machine, Clinton would "TRIANGULATE' from a position of weakness and enabling, instead of CONFRONTING the r-w smear mob and exposing their corrupt fallacies. (See Chapter 1 of Robert Parry's "Secrecy and Privilege," available at ConsortiumNews.com, which details how Bill Clinton undercut the investigations into Republican criminality in the Iran-Contra, Iraq-gate, October Surprise, BCCI, and S&L scandals, and thereby ENABLED the right-wing attack machine of the Repuglican Party to elevate "Honor and Dignity" and "Moral Values" to winning campaign themes for at least a decade's worth of elections.)

These senators who support Joe Lieberman BETRAY Democratic voters and donors by AIDING the Republican Party, which will, without a doubt, use EVERY Joe Lieberman accusation and campaign attack against his Democratic Senate challenger as fodder for their own Republican media attack machine.
