Cowardly Democrats, or, "Bravo for serial child molester and Polygamist "prophet" Warren Jeffs"
As we all know, one of the defining attributes of the Cowering Democrat Party over the past dozen years is, "never, ever, under any circumstances, CONFRONT the teachings of any of the main organized religions, as expressed by the most hard-core, 'fundamentalist' sects of those faiths."
This utter inability to CONFRONT the Catholic and many Protestant churches over the dreaded ABORTION issue, or the Orthodox, radical, Zionist-expansionist wing of the Jewish faith over continued expansion by 'settlements' into the West Bank and Gaza Strip, is actually the rock-bottom bedrock of the current Democratic crack-up.
The Democrats simply have not found an answer to the ABORTION issue, and even when anti-abortion zealots and murderers such as Paul Hill and Eric Rudolph are caught red-handed murdering people (or convicted by jury for murder), the Democrats, the press, and the media (not to mention Republicans who thrive on the divide-and-conquer 'morality' issues) ALL BEND OVER BACKWARDS to ISOLATE the accused murderers from the anti-abortion movement, even though both Paul Hill and Eric Rudolph were and still are widely admired in some anti-abortion communities.
Hell, the damn cowering Democrats and hate-provoking Republicans even go out of their way to IGNORE the links between Arab Muslim nations and the SLAVERY, GENOCIDE, terrorizing rapes, and MASS MURDER in the SUDAN.
CONDOLEEZA RICE might be the face of the adminstration's NEGLECT of the Sudan genocide (just as Colin Powell was the face of the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld march to war in Iraq, in defiance of the facts, respect for the world community, UN resolutions, and hundreds of thousands of anti-war protesters in America and the world), but you can not do an even cursory review of the SUDAN GENOCIDE and state-created FAMINE there, without realizing that the Khartoum government's homicidal march on the South Sudan is funded and made possible by the Arab Muslim states. Yet the US "mainstream press" join CONDOLEEZA RICE and the entire Bush administration in saying "ENSLAVE AND MURDER ALL YOU WANT... we'll PRETEND TO look the other way, and IGNORE the massive systematic human rights abuses!"
But this post is not about Condoleeza Rice's extravagent shoe-shopping mission in New York as New Orleans drowing victims perished, days after Hurricane Katrina passed and under blue skies; nor is it about her giving a pretty "Who, me?" face as the US does next to nothing about the Sudan genocide.
THIS post is about FLDS ("Fundamentalist Later Day Saints") polygamist cult leader and "prophet" Warren Jeffs having been placed on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted List," for fleeing a criminal warrant to appear in an Arizona court on charges of child abuse. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, << Jeffs has been a fugitive since June 2005, when he was indicted on sex crimes in Arizona for allegedly marrying a 16-year-old girl to an older man. In April, Utah prosecutors charged him with two counts of rape as an accomplice for allegedly forcing another underage girl into marriage. >>

But what is important for the state of the Democratic Party in America (and hence representative democracy and a functioning opposition party) is that Jeffs claims he is the direct mouthpiece of God on earth, and that therefore "PLEASING THE PROPHET" is akin to godliness, whereas "displeasing the prophet" is akin to sin and "THE FALL" of humanity from grace to murderous prideful idolatry. OBEDIENCE and SUBMISSION are the most valued traits, in audio tapes of his droning monologues, Jeffs counsels that wives "build up your husbands through submission to his will."
Sure, Warren Jeffs treats the women of his sect like chattle property. As NPR relates << A significant means of prophet power is derived from his ability to punish followers by reassigning their wives, children and homes to another man. Obedience is highly valued, and it is rare for wives to resist reassignment. >>

In order for Jeffs to be able to assign so many women to men who meet with his favor, the young men who would otherwise compete for the attentions of the young women are, literally, driven out of town - expelled by the community, allowed to pack one bag, and given a ride to the edge of town, often by the town police force, which answers to Jeffs. If a son who has been expelled from the community should drive back to visit, he is harassed by the police and treated like a (potential) criminal. This forces dozens of young men to wander from the protected environment of the FLDS community into the streets and warrens of larger cities, where like so many runaways many are forced into prostitution to survive.
What is "good" about the Warren Jeffs FLDS story, is that it illustrates how SUBMISSIVE the Democratic Party is to similar abuses, in so many cases, from larger, more established religions. Democrats TOLERATE the Diebold DISENFRANCHISEMENT of so many Black and "liberal" voters, because Senator Joe Lieberman and the AIPAC wing of the Democrat party support the neo-con Republican march to war(s) in Iraq and the Middle East.
Democrats REFUSE to CONFRONT the Catholic Church for several decades of HARBORING CHILD-RAPING PRIESTS, because the Catholic Church is such a large and powerful organization. Indeed, it is almost grotesque to watch the Vatican's minions in the press and American Catholic churches launch their coordinated and well-organized assault on the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in the 2004 election, the Vatican using the ABORTION ISSUE as a cudgel to lecture Kerry (and 'inspire' their flock) about "MORALITY" and "sin" and "values," using Abortion as the Alpha and Omega of issues! (And neglecting or ignoring then Pope John Paul's admonitions against the invasion of Iraq.)
Kerry had the same response to Catholic Church mechanizations against his candidacy as he did in responding to President Bush's "flip-flopper" accusation: NO response, none. Kerry just stood their like a punching bag, allowing the millions in funding sent in to his campaign by committed and hopeful Democratic activists and donors to be flushed down the sewer like so much toilet paper by his non-response to Republican and Vatican charicatures of his person, and the Democratic Party platform.
Well, thanks to WARREN JEFFS, the Democrats have ANOTHER nightmare issue that they can cower from, slink back to their Georgetown cocktail circuit donor's clubs, and seek a few big contributions to help ease the pain of SELLING WOMEN and YOUNG MEN DOWN THE RIVER by NEGLECTING TO STAND UP FOR LAWS and JUSTICE.
